last saturday/sunday
saturday was beautiful but i was inside working at a babyfair with a mk booth for most of it... the event was at the roundhouse community center downtown and it was very good meeting lots of interested young moms and making lots of community connections (definitely turned out to be a very work-worthy day).
i had picked up a yummy tomato boccaccino salad at urban fare across the street before i headed home and after eating that, andrew and i could not make up a decision as to what we wanted to do for dinner... at 9pm we finally got ourselves out the door and walked up to sushi-yama a few blocks away... snapped a few shots of the cherry blossoms en route and even in the pics u can tell how late the light is staying around now... hooray for spring/summer-ish weather!

sunday was our funday... i made pancakes with fresh strawberries, bananas and blueberries and invited jacquie and doug over for breakfast on our rooftop. then we called up some more peeps and headed to the beach to enjoy the beautiful weather...

julie doiron
andrew got us tix to see julie doiron... she's sooo great to see live... and this was the first show for me to hear her stuff with a back-up band (andrew caught the zulu in-store the night before while i was at my mk meeting)... the media club was totally packed this time around (huge change from her previous vancouver show - and therefore my excuse for having so many back-of-audience-heads in the above shots)[wed.apr.19]

roo at the beach...
easter monday we were in tsawassen with andrew's fam... we remembered to bring the camera along but somehow never actually brought it out to take pics. at the end of the night after we dropped off andrew's dad in northvan we swung by 3rd beach in stanley park... by law it is a no-dog beach but by night it is pokaroo's racetrack... around and around she goes (usually figure 8's)... got some funny pics of her resting at the pitstop -she found a little dugout in the sand and kept snuggling up in it.

cadeaux at the lamplighter...
andrew and i had lotsa family visits (5 to be exact) thru the easter long weekend... and after partyin down wednesday & thursday nite(to morn) we were all ready feelin run down on friday... we had so many great things to do that night but in the end we decided to rest at home to regain some consciousness... we managed to make our way up to the hood's dvd rental and got ourselves 'life aquatic' to veg out to.
saturday night we were feeling weary but did manage to get some bro-cializing in albeit only for a brief amt of time... we showed up at the lamplighter a bit before cadeaux went on and then were bak home by about midnight... we missed seeing much of the ysp!wsd! set as an interlude upstairs in the dominion turned into a kwik car trip to eastvan

destroyer, ladyhawk, christa min

at richards on richards, wed eve... there was a little bit of a kafuffle with the ticket situation as andrew and i had both gone out and bought tickets the same day... but it all managed to work out nicely as our friend chris was working the door that night and he took care of passing our spares along. the christa min played a really good set and ofcourse ladyhawk blew us all away... destroyer seemed to be a little lacking in the rockin dept. but nonetheless they are always a good band to see live. between andrew and i we yet again shot alot throughout the show and ended up with over 100 pics to show for it.

random thru the week shots...

2 lil birds that have taken to hanging out by our window (and singin their cute little love songs)
andrew's mom bought poki a dog treat that looks like a cigar... it broke just before i was about to give it to her but since the nub was still intact i made her pose for the camera before she could eat it

sunday was the bi-annual record swap at the croatian cultural centre... andrew, jax and i went for our first times... i think andrew and i had somewhat purposely missed previous ones because we knew we'd just end up blowing all our money... which we did that day... we came home with more than 50 new albums... and now have a dire need to get a new shelf to house all these LP's! it was a little overwhelming for us, so we took a break at about 3 and made our way to the regular vancouver swap meet... andrew managed to find a few more vinyl scores there and then with the little bit of cash we had left we went back to the ccc for one last browse...
there arent any pics of the record swap cuz we were way too involved with the task at hand... but here's a shot of jacquie, with andrew flippin thru some at the flea market...

jacquie's cat shaolin watching the neighbour cat through the screen... the neighbor cat gets a funny body haircut, but keeps a fluffy face and paws. (dont ask me why i tinted it blue - it just kinda seemed like a fun thing to do).

ghettoblaster at rime
[sat.apr.8] rime is on commercial drive, and a somewhat new restaurant/bar/venue (it was our 1st time going)... the food is turkish and both andrew and i really enjoyed our meals (and the music of course). jess did a solo acoustic set first with a few friends sitting in on some songs. then there was an all-girl piano/violin/clarinet trio followed by ghettoblaster...

Last Saturday was another day spent volunteering... this time it was a pampering day for mothers of special needs children... it was held at willingdon church and there were about 75 moms that were treated to masssages, facials, make-up, manicures/pedicures, and hairstyling. My mom's mk unit took care of all the facials and I personally worked with 7 women over the course of the day, and made a few new customers too. gained some insight on what some of these moms have to go through and they definitely deserved this day focused on them.

mk facials for all... we started bright n early (i think i arrived there about 8:30am) so we did get to finish fairly early... i was home by about 3 and still managed to squeeze a bit more productivity out of the day.

andrew was working away at home while i was out (his workspace could be moving to a retail location very soon - yay for us having more living space!)

killer...whales at the anza club

forgot to bring the 'real' camera so just got a few pics with the point-n-shoot... unfortunately we still dont have the proper file card so i'm limited to the camera memory which is about 12 shots. (anybody want to buy a SD memory card with 512 MB?) didnt even manage to get one shot of raised by wolves but they did have a good set! [fri.apr.7]
the cinderella project

weekend before last i spent my sunday volunteering as a make-up artist for the cinderella project... i worked with 7 girls individually throughout the day and it went very well for the fact that i don't typically put make-up on other people (with mary kay you teach others how to do it themselves). the cinderella project provides under-privelleged grade12 students from across the lower mainland who might not otherwise have the means to get to their prom/graduation a day to be excited about graduating... there are tons of clothes for the 'cinderellas' and 'cinderfellas' to choose from as well as accessories, and shoes... There were also seamstresses on site to do any hemming/alterations, hairdressers, make-up artists and photographers doing portait shots. it was pretty amazing to be a part of it all... and definitely a new experience for me to be working side by side with MAC, Shiseido, and independant make-up artists... felt pretty good about getting compliments on our products and even seeing a few of them using mk! All in all a great experience... [sun.apr.2]

Black Rice Alumni
show at the railway club - we decided to walk downtown and in the rush to get out the door forgot to bring along the camera... so all i got were a few pics from my lil digicam which only had enough memory for a few shots... by not using the flash i was able to take more pics but still didnt get anywhere near as many as i would've liked to have taken...
