trina's quilt

shelley spearheaded the project and let us go thru her store of old 'fanny's fabrics' overstock... i ended up making 7 patches but Shell did almost all the sewing work!

All the patches were compiled by Shelley

sat.mar.18 (to be continued)

saturday morn i went to bed shortly after 3am... we had shown up to peter's party so late (due to a flat tire on the way) that we ended up staying till the very end - and drove all the last partygoers home. then just a few dreamy hours later i had my monthly city-wide mk buffet breakfast... i got all zoomed up on coffee and enthusiasm which remarkably got me through the next 24hrs... i came home on a mission to get some work done but barely managed to type out a few emails (caffeine makes me very distractable)... andrew was repairing an amp and then doug (party host) dropped by with some more broken gear... jax rode my bmx over and we all hung out for awhile... then us girls walked up main street for some shoppin (that being me, jacquie and pokaroo). i had pokes showing off her new fasionable bear sweater in the stretches of main without clothingstores and while I was browsing the shops she sat content in my backpack and grabbed herself lots of gleeful attention... there was one point where i think i had a whole store at my back cuddling poki while i flipped through the hangers on the rack. anyways, pics below are random shots from the afternoon hangout session... i shoulda taken the camera along on my shopping spree (it was such a nice day we walked all the way from 1st to 25th) but i think this day was well documented enuf as you will see whenever i manage to get through the evenings set of photos.... (top right corner shots of the collage are seanmaxey&andydixon's plexi artpiece - its already sold but andrew is photographing it)

this past weekend...

wow, i cant believe i am almost up to date with my picture posts! but i've got my work cut out for me because at the party we went to on saturday night, andrew and i took over 200 photos! but here's a go for events prior to... we had a late start friday night and ended up at Las Margaritas the mexican restaurant in kits for dinner at about 10pm - when we were seated i heard the couple next to us saying "who would eat dinner at 10pm" and then ofcourse we go ahead and order our complete meal - jalapeno poppers and lime margarita to start, followed by ceasers with our dinners (chile relleno and burritos), and summed up with a yummy pina colada for dessert. then it was off to the party held by andrew's friend since highschool Peter and to see Lisa who has been my friend since before highschool - it's kind of funny how small the city can become when you realise that there really is only one degree of seperation... anyways, i only had one pic of the night and it wasnt that great so i fiddled around with some effects and made a lil picpile... (still isnt a very flattering shot but oh well)

sunday bike cruise

sunday.march.12.2006. bikecruise along the seawall... landed at pacific.davie.denman. for some dinner&drinks at the bayside lounge - a cozy place with an awesome sunset view. it was our friend martin's last night in vancity before he moved bak to novascotia and he didnt want his pic taken but i managed to get the dark blur of him ducking out of the camera's view. photos by me (albeit all on the dark side)!

parrallels party

sat.mar.11 (weekend before last) we were ready to hit up our friends' party downtown in their recording/art/workspace... a secret password had been assigned to keep random peeps from the street out... but upon arrival, we found out from the doorguy that security measures had been changed and the 'otis redding' password was no longer valid for entry... there was a guest list and unfortunately they had no names from the person who had invited us (as they couldnt find him). luckily i saved the day by flashing a piece of memorobilia from the party hosts wedding from the summer prior, a 1" pin button that was attached to my old corduroy purse which i had just transferred my stuff into that evening as my regular everyday purse (kenneth cole goldie) had just snapped the strap. glad to say we got in no problem and had a great night... even ran into an old highschool friend LisaPal. pics below of the parallels shot by andrew...

random shots above by me & andrew... abbott street racket shots below by me & andrew, it was the bassist Henri's last show before moving bak to novascotia and mike who usually plays keys wasnt feeling good but andrew got a shot of him in the crowd...

we left the party and stopped in at the lamplighter to chek out the free cbc show -caught the last couple songs of the last band who were from quebec i believe and then andrew and i decided to walk home since it was a nice night and neither of us was too tired.

snow in march... rare for vancouver, especially right near the water like here on the seawall... scienceworld is looking a little ghetto in this pic as the wind had ripped up the roof-repair coverings. they just put some fresh ones on recently and i think they are slated to be finished with all the repairs by may or so

trend west

aaaahhh... we barely survived the "we're not a time-share" persentation... it was in birch bay (blaine) WA and we headed down directly after work... we dropped pokaroo off at my parents and then stopped for dinner across the border at a little mexican restaurant... we arrived at 8pm and didnt get outta there about 11:30 (they promised on the phone to be done by 9:30)... on the way home it was snowing tons and we passed a car sitting in the ditch so after that we drove a bit more slowly/carefully, and by the time we stopped for gas, picked up poki - we finally are home and its almost 1am! we went for the free trip and chose san fran as our destination, but we actually are considering the idea - i hated the high pressure sales because it doesnt let you think things thru at all but i actually will probably end up looking into this a bit more... anyways if anybody wants a free trip to san fran, vegas, san diego, tahoe, anaheim, or reno - let me know they want 15 referrals... all u gotta do is sit there for 3.5 hours and let them talk yr ear off!

VICE magazine party

[yet another post of a happening from last month - i'm wide awake, posting at midnight as i had a coffee this afternoon - when will i learn]

i was still feeling quite sick when Vice magazine was hosting their vancouver party sponsered by kokanee... it was held at the silk haus, just a few blocks from our place and on the edge of chinatown/tinseltown... the christa min and pride tiger were set to play and since andrew had just fixed all the p.t. amps they put us on the guest list... now, supposedly it was an exclusively 'guest list only' show... but when we arrived there was a fairly big line-up outside which we subsequently sat in assuming everyone was on 'the list'... a few cold minutes later with the line not having budged an inch - i sent andrew to the front to tryn get us in... eventually we made our way past the line-up and into the crowded smokey space... christa min was at the end of their set so we only got a few photos...

me being sick'n'all i was having a hard time in the ultra-smokey place... i headed to the back to see if there were any open back doors (or any sort of ventilation) but instead i came across the bar which was handing out free kokanee beers... i grabbed 2 and headed bak to the front... our friend andy dixon is one of the featured artists on the current kokanee cans (www.kokaneebeer.com) so it was fun seeing his art floating around the party being happily guzzled up by drinkers... i only ended up taking a few sips of my beer before i decided i really couldnt hack the smoke and ended up leaving fairly quickly... i never got to see pride tiger play but here's some of andrew's shots...
this is what happens when u give people free beer all night long... you end up with lots of empties and lots of drunk people... then the next thing you now you got a full-fledged flying beer can fight on your hands!

random 'request' shot...
"don't you want to take my picture?" - oh how very vice of you

steve's bday party!

our friend steve had a rockin houseparty for his bday... a bunch of vancouverites headed out to Langley/whiterock for the fun... Pic Pile descriptions: -steves place with festive lighting; -a full moon plus what i like to call a moon-bow (dunno what the proper terminology is but there was a giant glowing circle around the moon)i dont think u can really see it in the shot but it would roughly be around the edges of the crop; -cool aquarium fish that is supposedly not found in the wild, it is has been cross-bred specially for aquarium enthusiasts; -andrew spying on me from the porch thru the screened kitchen window while i get a glass of water.

more catch-up pics...

i have been so behind in posting pics that i have no idea in what order all the photos in my backlog happened... it gets confusing because we have a few different cards and different cameras and we werent uploading any photos for awhile because the computer was 'out of order'.... i know for sure that i am at least caught up till january -so that means i'm only a little over a month behind... here goes...

brenda, chenoa and i headed up to whistler one monday to pick up my lil digicam from the lost&found... it was overcast in the city that day but once we got up to squamish it cleared right up... we had a nice lunch on the Longhorn saloon patio - watched everyone riding down the mtn, did some shoppin in the village and then headed bak home -woulda been nice to go riding but i still wasnt feeling up to it.

pokasaurus rex showing off her toothful grin and me smothering her with affection... pokes has one wiggly tooth from a running accident which happened almost 3 years ago - its the crooked one on the bottom.

snoshoeing... one of my co-workers at scienceworld is also a snowshoe guide at mt.seymour, and he set up a free night for us to go trekk around the mtn with him... it was so nice having someone experienced to lead us around through the darkness as we mostly went off the groomed tracks and deep into the forest (as u can see him pointing out on the map). he taught us some new skills - like how to get down steep hills (u sit down and sled on yr shoes- very fun!) and what pine trees have edible needles... a great tour, fun evening, and good way to get some alternative mtn exercise!

ivy's vancouver visit

*****

another hilo roommate came to visit me... ivy had been living in nome, alaska for the past couple years and was visiting family n friends in seattle for a few weeks. she made her first trip to canada and although the city was overcast most of the time the last couple days we had blue skies with scattered clouds (i still dont think she got to see the full view of the mtns).

stanley park pics: totems, lions gate bridge, the hollow tree...

Early one morning we planned on visiting the UBC museum of anthropology... but unfortunately we discovered it's not open to the public on mondays... we saw lots of students going in and we considered pretending to be in class but decided to just enjoy the nice day outside instead. there's tons of stuff to take pics of outside and since the back is all glass i also shot some photos thru the windows. there was a carver working on a big piece and that was really neat to watch (something we never would've seen had we come on any other day).
