thanxgivin weekend
the holiday coupled with andrews bday meant we had lots of family dinners... my fav was mexican food at pedros on granville street. the other highlight of the weekend was going sailing with andrew's work acquaintance sebastian. he docks his boat under the burrard street bridge and there are about 12-15 other boats there that all race together every other week. it was tons of fun racing around and we placed pretty well despite the fact that i hadnt been sailing in over 2 years and andrew has hardly any sailing experience. 'get ready to tack!"
jason heads to alberta
after the run on sunday, andrew and i headed over to the north shore to see my brother jason off... he's in alberta working now and will be based there for the next 6months i think, with visits home here and there.
cibc run for the cure
bright and early on sunday october 2nd i did the 'run for the cure' a fundraiser for the canadian breast cancer foundation. i survived the 5km! but i didnt take those photos i posted -those were taken off the website but they are from the vancouver race this year.
the legion...
after the funeral - jacquie and i deceided to go for a drink in a 'wake' fasion. we headed to the kerrisdale legion and had some drinks with her mom while taking part of the fundraising meat draw. the pics below are actually from the week after (we went bak!) but it was pretty fun to win food while being out. i won the breakfast pack which included a dozen eggs, a block of cheese, bacon and sausages - so at least andrew could eat half of the winnings.
mr. van camp
so the beginning of the month started off with a sad funeral. my highschool drama teacher died suddenly of a heart attack. he was an incredible teacher that went way beyond his official duties and acutally taught us teens a thing or two about life and who we were (as we struggled to find out for ourselves). the theater program at seaquam was like a second family for alot of us, so it was nice to see alot of the old faces although it was under distressing circumstances. the service was held at south delta secondary (where he was currently teaching) in the auditorium. it was a full house and it's uncanny resemblence to seaquam really was fitting. the stage was full of backdrops and props from assorted plays he had directed as well as his motorcycle and golfclubs. the entire service was conducted like a play even with a soundtrack playing songs from some of the musicals we performed in. some of his current students spoke about their last class with him and it made me really remember what a special teacher he was to all of us. when he got home from work that day (the last day of summer) he went for a walk in stanley park as the sun was setting. sadly that was his last walk and because he had left his wallet at home they were unable to identify him. his family had missing persons posters up before he was eventually matched up.
